Utah College of Applied Technology provides competency-based education in an open-entry, open-exit environment which prepares over 58,753 high school and adult students with career and technical skills. The flexibility of open-entry, open-exit scheduling allows students to start school anytime without waiting for a specific date (i.e. quarters or semesters)

What does open-entry/open-exit mean? Open-entry/open-exit is a method of instructional delivery that allows students to begin study at any time, progress through course material at their own pace, and demonstrate competency when knowledge and skills have been mastered

What does competency-based mean?
Competency-based focuses on what the learner can “do” as a result of the learning experience, in addition to what the learner “knows”. Competencies are major skills or abilities complemented by the knowledge necessary to perform tasks effectively. They describe performance expectations in observable, measurable terms, telling learners what they will be able to do, as well as what they will know, as the result of a given learning experience.
